Dear Parents: 

In 2010, New York State leaders approved the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA).  This law took effect on July 1, 2012.    One of the provisions of DASA included the requirement that school districts publish and share their code of conduct which supports an environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment and bullying in all areas of the school, school buses, and school functions.  DASA also requires that each school has a DASA Coordinator.  At Ellicott Elementary, I am filling that role.  I will oversee that our school has provided staff with the information they need to address situations as they arise.   If there is a situation of harassment or bullying, please contact me at the main office, 209-6278.

The Orchard Park Central School District has established a comprehensive document which meets all of the legislative requirements of DASA.  The general theme of our code of conduct, K-12 is:  RESPECT- RESPONSIBILITY - TOLERANCE - DIGNITY.

Attached you will find our district’s code of conduct summary as it pertains to our elementary school division.  Please read over the information and discuss any age appropriate components with your child.  On the last page of the document, you will find a section for your signature.  Please sign and detach this portion and have it returned to your child’s teacher.   For your information, the complete code of conduct can be found on the district web page. 

The Orchard Park Central School District is committed to continuing to provide a safe and orderly school environment for students, staff and parents.  We believe that our code of conduct reinforces the principles of civility, mutual respect, citizenship, character, tolerance, honesty and integrity.  All of us working together will ensure that these principles continue to be nurtured daily.
