Test to Stay Program

  • The Test To Stay program will begin on Thursday, January 20, 2022.  If you have opted in and your child is deemed to be a close contact, you will be contacted by your school nurse to begin the Test to Stay protocol.

    Under this plan, PreK-12 students and employees who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and who are identified as close contacts due to COVID-19 exposure while in a school or community setting (household exposures do not qualify) may attend in-person work (instruction/academic periods) even while under mandatory quarantine orders, if:

      • The student is symptom-free;
      • The school has received consent to undergo testing; and
      • The student is tested a minimum of two times during the five-day period following exposure, unless recognition of the exposure is delayed or weekends or school breaks intervene.
        • We will plan to test as close to the first day your child is deemed to be a close contact, and the last test must occur on day five.  If day five falls on a weekend or a holiday, your child must test the next day of school (e.g., day five is a Saturday, your child would test on Monday).
        • All testing needs to take place prior to the start of the school instructional day.

    A few other key points regarding Test to Stay:

    • All testing will be conducted by the school nurse in the nurse’s office or other designated school location. Your child will be instructed to go to the Health Office upon arrival in the morning.
    • Please note that students participating in TTS are allowed to continue to ride the school bus or walk to school. However, we very much prefer that parents/guardians provide personal transportation for students in TTS.
    • Unfortunately, at this point, the NYSDOH will not allow students in Test To Stay (TTS) to participate in their extracurricular activities until the 6th day after exposure.
    • If a student tests positive for COVID-19 during this process, the student will be excluded/isolated per existing procedures, and contact tracing will commence.

    We thank you for your continued cooperation and support.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your school nurse or principal.
